Excel File Merger is a nifty application for Macintosh (Mac OS X, Jaguar, Panther, Tiger and Leopard) which easily and efficiently merges hundreds or thousands of Excel (xls), Text (txt), or Comma delimited (csv) files into one master file. With a very simple user interface, all your files can be combined with the click of a mouse. How Does it Work? The user selects the file type to be merged (.xls, .csv, or .txt file) and selects the folder containing these files and then chooses the resulting merged file name and location. Then, hit the merge button. Who needs this Application? If you're stuck with a thousand xls, csv, or txt files and need one combined file, this is the application for you. Excel File Merger appeals to those in finance, commerce, web scraping, scientists (who often obtain scientific data in csv or txt format), accountants and others working with numerous spreadsheets. Whether your csv, txt, or xls files are created on a Windows PC or a Mac, Excel File Merger will run the merge. FAQ Q: Does Excel FIle Merger work with files created in Office 2008? Yes, if fact, it will work on any Microsoft Excel file or any other csv/txt file generated on a Mac. Q: How does this application handle workbooks with multiple sheets? Prior to running the merge, all sheets in a given workbook need to be combined using conventional macros programming (or, do it manually). When all files to be merged contain one sheet, the merge with other files can begin. Q: Does this application work on Windows PC? No, not at this time. Q: Can Excel File Merger merge csv, txt, or xls files created on a Windows machine? Absolutely, as long as it is an xls , csv, or txt file. Q: How are the merged files inserted into the unified , merged file? Intelligently ! Once the last set of data is inserted into a specific row, the next file starts inserting in the row below thereby eliminating overlaps. Files are merged sequencially according to the order within a folder. Q: Do all spreadsheet files need to have the same row heading? No, Excel File Merger will take care of files with different row headings and different number of columns and rows. Formatting, however, will be lost in the merge. Q: If I open a merged csv or txt file, it looks garbled, why? Csv and txt files are flat files. To make some sense out of them, the files need to be opened in Excel. Excel will recognize these files as binary, flat files and the text import wizard will allow you to open and view the file in the proper format. Files should then be saved in the proper format for future work. |
